"It's a Knock Out!"

"Knock Out Rose Lives Up to its Name"

If you haven't tried it, you may want to put it high on your list.  Knock Out is a shrub rose that is compact and bushy.  The plants reach from 3-5 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide.  This rose is being touted as very disease resistant.

The bush produces abundant clusters of blossoms in varying shades of red and pink, 3 to 3 1/2 inches in diameter beginning in spring and continuing to provide color until the first frost.  The blossoms have a light tea rose fragrance.  The deep glossy green foliage with blue and maroon highlights and maroon undersides turns deep purple in the fall.  Knock Out is extremely easy to grow, even for those brand-new to gardening, and is so pest-tolerant that pesticides are rarely ever needed.  It also has an apparant tolerance, if not resistance, to the cursed black spot.

Knock Out roses need five to six hours of direct sun each day.  Morning sun is essential, but afternoon shade is tolerated.  Good air movement helps the dew and rain dry quickly, discouraging disease.  They need to be fed every four to six weeks during the growing season with light applications of a slow-release fertilizer such as Grower's Special 12-6-6.

Breeders are continuing to develop new varieties of the Knock Out rose on a steady basis.  We have Knock Outs available in Red, Pink, Double Knock Out and Blushing Knock Out, and now the New "Sunny" Knock Out in yellow.
